Going Back Generations
Our History
The District was formed in 1915 under the Irrigation District Law for the primary purpose of distributing water to the agricultural land within the District. The District includes approximately 13,962 acres of land in southwestern Tulare County along the eastside of the San Joaquin Valley in the community of Terra Bella using approximately 160 miles of pipeline. The Agricultural land within the District is planted with over 60% permanent crops, the most prevalent crops being citrus and pistachios.
Terra Bella Irrigation District has a contract with the U.S. Bureau of Reclamation for 29,000 acre-feet of Class 1 water from the Friant Division of the Central Valley Project. Friant-Kern Canal carries water from Millerton Lake to the Tulare and Kern counties in the south.
